Customers can submit ideas to Dell and vote for them. Once an idea reaches the top, Dell considers the implementation of it. Great way to have a customer-driven company!

I used to use this app a lot once I had my Nokia N95. When I upgraded (was that really an upgrade?? lol:)) to an iPhone I really missed this app. Basically it allows you to to skype calls and chats. Calling works only with WiFi though (on N95 it was working through 3G as well but I suspect that Apple won’t allow this to happen cause of telcos contracts) but anyway it’s still a great application.

A tip for ultra-fast web browsing

Â The last few months there has been a great interest around SSD drives and their 0.1ms access time. We all want to get an SSD ASAP but the prices are still too high. However there is software that can create a drive on your computer using its memory. This means that they are even faster than SSDs. Of course the great disadvantage is that these drives are deleted once you turn off your computer. So a good solution is not to use them for storing data but for common tasks that need to be performed like web browsing. In reality, using a portable browser like firefox 3.0 on a ramdrive is so very fast. After doing so I can switch tabs instantly and open a lot of pages with flash at the same time. These were tasks that had a delay once the browser was on my hard drive. So here are the instructions on how to set this up. It won’t take more than 5 minutes:):

Requirements:

Grab the following files:
Ramdisk: http://www.box.net/shared/htpmm1zm8e
Firefox Portable: http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable

Instructions:

Unpack Ramdisk to a location on your harddrive. Run ramdisk.exe, select install ramdisk. A warming might come up so click to allow the driver to be installed. Once installed you can set the size of the ramdisk and the drive letter. Click ok, the system will restart.

Once the system is restarted you will find a new drive. This is a drive that stays on memory. All the data in that drive will be deleted once you reboot. However if you just copy the portable version of firefox 3.0 in that drive (it takes 2-3 seconds to copy it) you will be enjoying the fastest ever possible web browsing.

So for firefox, execute the file you downloaded and point the installer to your desktop. After the installation finishes you will have a folder named “FirefoxPortable” on your desktop. Each time your computer restarts, simply drop that folder on your ramdisk andÂ run FirefoxPortable.exe from that location. Browsing will be very fast especially on sites with flash like youtube or vimeo for example.

Ok.. First of all I have to be honest. I have so many weeks to write on by blog that I forgot the password to login

But, after an exciting weekend I think I should follow the advice of a good friend and start writing again.

The story begins on Saturday when I met Andrej who was visiting Greece. Andrej is a fantastic young entrepreneur and he has a great experience in several aspects of life (not only business related). So when he called and told me he was visiting Greece I thought it should be great to arrange a typical Greek day for him. We went for launch near the Temple of Poseidon at a seaside restaurant. What really amazed me is that Andrej found this place to be one of the best places he had ever visited. And that made me rethink some things… In my daily life I usually hate the too-much-sun we have in Greece. But when I found out that the same time in Ljubjana the temperature was at 1C I immediatelly thought that I was at the right place:) Well, that’s just an example of how many things we have but don’t respect. I really like that I can work half of the year at a beach with a laptop but I almost take it for granted. Maybe I should respect such values more when I hear that some friends in the UK have never seen sun for the last weeks maybe months.

The other advice I got and I think I should follow, has to do with my blog. We were discussing about blogs in general and I told Andrej that I am afraid of writing on my blog because I might have language mistakes since English is not my mother language. But after him giving me some examples of very popular blogs with really bad English I was definitelly persuaded to start writing again. Moreover, sometimes I think I should delete some posts from my blog. But even this is wrong. I should be writing whatever comes to my mind since it would be quite fun to look at it after 2,3 or even 20 years.

Will robots become humans or the opposite?

The idea that some day a robot smarter that humans will be built was always strange to me. Let apart that we don’t know if we can manage to make the robot have actual feelings nor have a certain way to know that this robot will be able to do more than humans (as been smarter only in “papers”).

However, the opposite can happen and there are several examples confirming it. Scientists develop artificial hearts, legs, arms, eyes and now are evenÂ considering building brain enhancements and memory chips for humans. So finally, after some years whenÂ we are able to reproduce or alter any part of the human body in a technical manner why we should ever need to build a robot that will be like humans and smarter than they are?

MyMistakes.2006

I always give wishes to everyoneÂ for aÂ healthy and happy new year but the best thing I am doing when a year goes by is to write down my mistakes and try to fix them starting from 01.01.NextYear.

As no exception, this yearÂ I made a lot of mistakes. Some of them I would like to share with everyone:

I delayed to take action when the problem was obvious. This happened many times during this year in many different situations. Moreover, this mistake is carried on from previous years. I hope I will fix this in 2007 because it’s one of the worst mistakes an entrepreneur can make. When you see a problem think and take action immediately.
I spent many hours on micro-management. This mistake is almost fixed by now. Of course, depending on what you consider micro-management to be, you always have to do little of it.
I dedicated much of my thoughts to ideas that I already knew I wouldn’t make a reality. Be careful about this one: The mind always goes wild but you have to do some execution as well. Think and invent new ideas but also make your project a reality. I have now ended up with a list of hundreds of ideas but decided only to dedicate myself to one. I believe this is a right choice for the new year:)
I didn’t do any sports, outdoor activities, etc.Â I did swim more than a hundred times in the sea during the year but still I didn’t do much to improve my physical health. Anyway, this is quite fixed again (I am not talking about the Wii tennis I was playing yesterday) by building a personal gym in the office and arranging some football and basketball matches with friends.
I forgot to keep in touch with many friends. This is the part where sometimes business takes over your personal life and really no one wants this to happen.

AsÂ a last remark I would say that it’s impossible not to make any mistakes at allÂ in your life but you have to be careful not to make the same mistakes again. Life itself is a great teacher for everyone but you need to be able to sit down and learn from your mistakes.

Waiting in the line: A highly productive experience

Well, this is a problem that most people would hate it. Instead I like waiting in the line or even at a doctors’ office. The reason is very simple: This is time you can use to think.Â

In most cases when you decide to turn off the laptop and the phones and get down to think you are usually disturbed by your own thoughts that you would like to work on immediately. This doesn’t happen when you have to wait for something else.Â

Last time I was to my dentist I had to wait for about 45 minutes. Since I wasn’t afraid by the fact that I was visiting my dentist, these minutes had been very productive. Instead of waiting minute by minute and wondering when will my turn come, I had the time to think on marketing and development. I had nothing to disturb me and nowhere to go. I was just sitting in a quiet room just waiting my turn. I must admit though that I spent the first 10 minutes persuading the rest of the patients to turn off the TV. However, the rest of the time proved to be very productive. I figured some workarounds that saved me at least 6 hours of work.Â

So next time you have to wait think again before getting disappointed; It’s a chance for thinking and solving your problems without distractions.Â

YES for Europe – Young entrepreneurs for Europe

According to yes.be I still have 14 years left as a member of young entrepreneurs association in Europe. Hopefully when I reach 40 I will be joining another association, maybe the world’s top 100 richest .

Â Well, the event is very interesting. It takes place in Brussels (Belgium) and you have a chance to meet and discuss with other young entrepreneurs from many different countries.
